No room for growth / toxic work environment

Pros

Most of the people were nice, and there wasn’t too much micromanaging going on.

Cons

There is no room for growth personally or professionally at this company, unless you’re a physician or director+. There was constant turnover in my time working for Evergreen. Pay was not at fair market value, which drove a lot of employees away. The bottom line seemed to be the number one priority over quality patient care, which was sad. There was also a lot of preferential treatment to those staff members that shared common interests with the manager (religious preferences, personality types and sadly, ethnicities seemed to play a role in how well some of us were treated). It was a daily grind and the morale of the team was terrible everyday. The work environment seemed more like a cattle drive than a tolerable place to work.

Pros

I have had a positive experience in almost all of the teams I have helped to support and have found it fairly easy to move up the ladder from starting out in healthcare as an appointment scheduler to an administrative assistant. A lot of the people within EvergreenHealth are supportive and kind and want to see you succeed.

Cons

Since I have been an administrative assistant, a position I have held at EvergreenHealth for 5 years, I have applied to other jobs within the organization to further my career in healthcare, and have remained stuck in the administrative assistant role. It seems no matter how many times I interview, for even an administrative coordinator position (not shooting for the stars), I can't move further than where I'm at currently. The other issue I have is that EvergreenHealth pays less money to their employees than other healthcare organizations in the area for the same positions (anywhere from $2-$5 less an hour, depending on the position) and they only give raises based on cost of living, not based on how hard you work or if you've met your yearly goals. I would rather not get a raise every year, but feel like I deserved it when I did get one and have it be substantial. Not these insulting 10 cents every year that they give for "inflation". News flash EvergreenHealth, inflation rises by at least 3% every year! Last, but not least, my latest job here has had a BAD case of job creep. Since getting the position I have had more and more projects and tasks added onto my plate without alleviation from the ones I had to do already and without getting compensated for all of my extra work. If you do decide to work here, which it isn't a terrible place to work, just be sure to keep your wits about you and make sure you stop people from adding too much onto your plate. One of their favorite things to say is "How can we be more L.E.A.N.?"
