Pros

Benefits (not pay), benefits (not pay), benefits (not pay. Most of my supervisors were good people. The people that work with you are great.

Cons

Pay, promotions. There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY to be promoted in this company without having your head up someone's rear end. Your work ethic and performance has nothing whatsoever to do with it. They also sometime hire the worst people.

Pros

Competitive pay rate. Also the company has an emphasis on career progression. Also, they are attempting to cut the administrative burdens that plague engineers, although with extremely limited success.

Cons

The staff has been severely cut, through retirements and normal attrition, in an effort to reduce overhead. But no work has been cut. Engineers are stretched very thin and often work long hours. What makes the situation worse is the lack of knowledge retention. We have lost a lot of very smart folks with 30 plus years of experience to retirement but there is very little effort to transfer their knowledge and experience to new engineers. This means even when we hire new engineers they are essentially useless. All this creates an environment that sees an almost unheard of turnover rate. Since I have been at this specific job (5ish years), about 2 dozen engineers have quit systems and design engineering or taken jobs elsewhere in the company. Lastly, while there are great career progression opportunities, they come with a significant increase in hours. Most of the lowest level supervisors put 60 hours in on a regular, non event work week. Work to reduce that have not been fruitful.

Pros

Repetitive daily tasks if you do not like changes or challenges Low pressure at work Great place for people who are looking for retirement.

Cons

The relatively high review scores and extremely good reviews on glassdoor.com were most likely caused by some internal HR campaign. these are not reflecting what the real company is. The HR policy and the company culture make promotions are extremely difficult. Work life balance is difficult. You were required to work overtime without getting paid. Managers are out of reach and do not know what the daily operations are, only showing up in office once every two weeks. Technology used is very old and out of dated. Benefits are not great for new employees. The company asks employees to donate a lot of money to local charity every year, which is supposed to be a good thing. But the company does not match employees' donation, and the percentage of each department's donation becomes a KPI for managers, so every employee got pressure from managers to donate no matter what. Ethical?
