Pros

Getting ready to retire comfortably after 35 years. I worked at a nuke for 25 then moved around for 10 working on Fukushima, Solar, LNG and international relations. Worked at PECo, Exelon Generation, Exelon Power, and Constellation. The variety will keep you interested and the pay will keep you satisfied. The people are honest, reliable, fair, hard working, and nice to work with

Cons

You need to be dedicated and care about your work; otherwise, don't bother. You can't smoke marijuana because the nuclear side performs drug tests, which is a blessing because you will save money and all your co-workers are clean & sober.

Pros

The only reason you should ever become an operator is if you only care about money. Yes it's very easy to pull in 130-145,000 with a couple of overtime days. The people who work here are also very cool.

Cons

Everything else. The hours... Rotating 12 hour schedule (DuPont) google it. You do get 7 days off, but those days and nights you work 12 hours you just come home and want to sleep because of how tired you are. Basically 24 hour days. Nuclear politics and regulations. Sweet mother of god where do I even start. An operator is the bottom of the totem pole at a nuclear plant. If something breaks they will find a way to pin it on you and convince you that you're incompetent. I feel like whoever came up with "human performance" came straight off a nuclear submarine and into HR. Run.

Pros

Diversity in qualified people, team work, regulatory compliance beyond other industries, perks, great cafeteria and gym onsite, exposure to the best people in their respective fields from all walks of life and all over the world. No cut corners. World leader in the industry. Always proud to say I work for Exelon

Cons

Nepotism and favoritism still exists. No program to utilize talented people who for one reason or another can no longer perform tasks of original position. As a world leader in the nuclear industry there is plenty lacking in getting those on LTD and the like retrained and retained. Many like me would love to still be productive and learn new skills versus becoming a number of the undesirables and the forgotten
