Pros

Good people to work with and generally everyone focuses on getting the job done.

Cons

A lot of work to be managed by too few people and overall the hiring process is slow and cumbersome. HR and management is too focused on DEI instead of actual job performance. Politics plays too much in promotional opportunities and less on the actual ability of applicants being able to perform job role.

Good but Understaffed Company

Pros

The work is very dynamic and stimulating. Pay is fair compared to the industry. A visible effort to focus on D&I. Exelon is very supportive of career/professional development (pursuing degrees/licenses attending workshops/conferences etc.)

Cons

Not enough people to do the dynamic and stimulating work, leaving employees to each perform the work of 2 or 3 people. That means long hours and working nights/ weekends/ vacations. Also the work environment has become less collegial and cordial since I started a decade ago. Colleagues used to support each other and lend a helping hand. Perhaps because the volume of work is so high, there’s more of an “every man for themselves” attitude these days. Finally Exelon is the very definition of “it’s not what you know but who you know”. There’s a constant push for employees to focus on career development, but the truth is advancement is non-existent without the right leader advocating for you. And be careful who you’re aligned with, the person you think will be next year’s executive could be pushed out tomorrow.
