Pros

Market leader, decent product making a difference to many folks out in the world. It depends which team you get into but if you stay away from the politics then you would be fine. Great place to start your career, even better if you could start at a senior level ...

Cons

Soul of the company has changed dramatically in the last few years. All the old timers have left, It has become too political with new people coming into Senior Management. Too much churn, not much value for old timers. Longer periods of time there will not get you very far (does not matter how smart or talented you may be). The right folks don't get the recognition and promotions often go to someone not deserving initially - only when the promoted candidate makes a fool of himself/herself is when common sense prevails - it shouldn't be that way to begin with.

Pros

Great people. The employees have a strong desire to work hard.

Cons

Leadership at the OU level is left to their own devices. I think Dara should step up and become more involved in what the leadership team in ETG is doing. The morale is down and once again the solution is to re-org. Lots of re-orgs with little benefit to the working members of the teams.

Pros

Expedia allows one to interface with a very diverse culture of people and allows for travel opportunity if you're in the right job at the right time. If you like challenging environments, have a substantial tolerance for ambiguity, enjoy ineffective leadership, then this is the place for you! Seriously though, I've met some very smart and good-hearted people. Oh, and supposedly we get good travel discounts, however I've been unsuccessful at getting these as I'm always directed to the main website. And when asking merchants [e.g. a hotel chain] about obtaining a discount I'm told we can get, they've always declined. I don't see many emails about people stealing other people's lunches.

Cons

It seems there is an equation for determining a true timeline for projects which applies only at Expedia. Project Completion = Estimated Work Time x 14 Days. This equation only applies for projects which actually complete. If you're lucky, your project will complete. Or, as is often the case, your project will suffer many deaths and rebirths. The ineffective leadership is probably the biggest reason this occurs. Decisions are made in a vacuum without any representation or input from those who actually know the details. These 'leaders' make decisions on a whim and seem to negate any positive action taken by their staff. Many people tend to use the 'ignore' button. It baffles me when team 'A' asks team 'B' for assistance and then when the feedback is provided, it falls upon deaf ears and no response from team 'A' is ever received. Many people here only care about themselves and could care less about their staff nor anyone else for that matter.
