Pros

ESH used to be a great place to work for back in the day i.e. around 2006 - 2008ish. Ever since they declared bankruptcy and came out of it - which kudos to them for doing that; things have started going to the DOGS.

Cons

Their recent restructuring makes you wonder if they ever want their employees to grow or not? Earlier there used to be an Area Manager which was a reachable goal from Hotel Manager - the logical next step up. Now, after the hotel manager comes district manager (3-5 hotels). How in the world do they expect you make that jump when they don't teach their managers enough to begin with. As a hotel manager expect to do a whole lot of desk shifts; god forbid if anyone at your hotel goes in 1 hour OT (you might just get written up for that). Apart from doing front desk shifts - you do not get any department heads. So you're the housekeeping supervisor, the Chief maintenance engineer, sales manager, sometimes the porter & everything else. You're ALWAYS on call. Apart from all these duties you are also supposed to be the sales manager (even though there is a Regional Sales Director) and do Drive around your CompSet, Shop call the competition and make cold calls. I am all for sales, but COME ON GUYS! On top of that you have to deal with low rated construction based business & kicked out for not paying their rent guests who are a constant pain to deal with. There is 1 revenue manager for 70+ hotels so there is no 1 on 1 interaction; but you cannot quote any rates other than what's loaded in the system without talking to the "Revenue Manager" or your "DM". They give you a company credit card however, any spending above 10 - you read it correct $10 needs approval from your DM. At the end of the day a hotel manager is nothing but a glorified GSR for 40K annual.
