Pros

Very stable company. Hiring all through the worst of the recession. If you work hard and get along with your peers, this can be a long-term career choice. Benefits are - good, but not great. Casual Fridays To answer a few points made in other posts: * As a Manager, no one has asked me to post here, positive or negative. Management knows of these reviews but most are simply rants from ex employees venting their frustrations. I regularly talk with my team to learn the truth from their perspective and most people are happy. * HR - yes, they do get a bit overbearing but it's better than it was 3 years ago * Employees in Constant Fear - mostly NO. There are exceptions for obvious reasons. * Bathroom Breaks - As a manager, I don't keep track of my team's bio breaks. If someone is excessively away from their desk and their work doesn't get done, we'll talk then. * Christmas Lunch - It's nice, and they give you 1/2 day paid holiday after it. The rumors are crazy. 90% of my team goes regularly and has a good time. A few don't like socializing and we let that go. We do strongly ask that everyone attend. * Annual Picnic - it's nice. I take my family when I can. It has never been required but I always encourage because it's fun. good food, carnival games, nice prizes, what's not to like. * Fresh Ideas and Creativity - Good. It is as encouraged as every other company I've worked for. Depends on your manager and the idea. Asking to work from home is not a fresh idea. * Old Fashioned - yes, they are a bit stuck in the 70's but I might be too so it's okay * High turnover - in some groups yes. in my group no. Over last 5 years, hired 20, asked 2 to leave, and another 2 left on their own * Is there a Career Path - better than most. The good ones usually will get promoted when the opportunity comes up. Some people get stuck in their current job for several reasons I'm sure you can figure out. H1B sponsorship for those needing it.

Cons

Some managers and some folks in HR have no idea how to manage and start throwing their weight around. I'm glad I don't work for them - you'd hate your job and either quit or be fired within a year. Other teams work quite well.

Pros

It is a growing company which continue to invest in employee and equipments. I work with some of the most humble engineers who have been with the company from few hundred employee to now few thousands. The entire engineering community is very resourceful backed by strong on-site manufacturing and EME experts. Compared with my previous company, the way Extron structure truly enable engineers to stay focus on new development. As company culture, it is a hybrid version of my previous three employments with 100K+ employees with more than 500 people on-site. In a strange way, I enjoy been monitored closely with these time cards while the personal/sick hours are not as intimidating as the company trying to emphasize. There are on-site people who may be paid hourly, it is fair everyone clock in/out and minimize the weird feeling of walking around with company hierarchy in mind. There are family gathering opportunity in summer, and mandatory x'mas party at year end. It's one of the thing it's a perk if you enjoy, or just something to whine about if you dislike gathering.

Cons

As my own example, it was difficult to gain visibility and was assigned to numerous low priority projects. The definition of priority seem too arbitrary and need to be better defined and explained to help employee set goals and perhaps opportunity for promotion and raises. Since this is a cross-matrix organization, the product managers and project managers should be liable for getting engineers recognized.

Pros

There's nothing good about this place.. some decent people and that's about it.. decent pay..

Cons

Where do I begin ? Directors with HUGE egos... Supervisors that only care about feeding those egos. HR that rules the place with absolutely no logic what so ever At first I thought it was different and joined the compnay despite reading these reviews cause I really liked the person who interviewed me. A blonde southern lady that I thought was so cool, oh boy was I wrong! I think this place is as close as it gets to dictatorship in america! Career development here is close to 0. Department politics are ridiculous.. Leadership sucks, I couldn't help but wonder when I worked there how does Andrew not know about what's going on in this company?! It seems that no one wants to contribute to the success of the company, everyone is in this constant fear that in return makes them not do anything nad those that do take an initiative, either get in trouble or get fired for no reason at all. I once created a cheat sheet for a group of people in this company, my manager took me to HR because she said I used the word 'Cheat Sheet' and that was too childish! My advice to you is to stay away from this company , regardless of how tempted you are or how much you think you are gonig to like the manager who interviewed you or how they tell you don't listen to the online reviews..
