The company culture leaves a lot to be desired.

Pros

I was really excited when I first came to Extron. The employees work hard--they have great products and are one of the most recognized names in the industry. The pay was excellent and I was looking forward to a great opportunity.

Cons

The hiring process should have given me a clue. First of all, HR called my previous employer BEFORE I had even considered an offer. Talk about awkwardness! Then, I was interviewed for a good 4 hours, finishing up with HR. About 10 minutes after I left, I got a call from HR offering the job and was asked if I could give them a response NOW. I told them I needed 24 hours to look over the offer. Once the offer was mailed/faxed the next day (I can't recall which), I needed to go for a physical/drug test, including a NICOTINE test. (If you're a smoker, don't even think about applying here). Thankfully I don't smoke, so this was not an issue. Over the year and a half I was there, I did not have a single performance review. Therefore, I couldn't tell from management whether I was doing a great job or not. I was so glad to have left while I could.

Pros

Structured onboard training, fixed working hours, international & helpful colleagues.

Cons

Everyone in the company is easily replaced. I have been working there for 7 months and saw 8 people (out of 80) leaving or getting fired. They offer 3 contract extension until you get an indefinite one. People are sent home when the contract ends without even giving them the chance to improve their work or getting feedback. Most of the jobs are call-center like jobs. Sitting in little, dark cubicles (without any daylight all day long) where you are not even allowed to have your own flowers (they need to be hidden when visitors from the US are coming). Colleagues are overall very helpful and committed to work. Management does not know what they are doing. I never worked for a company that has absolutely nothing over for workforce development or employer attractiveness. Other players in the industry are so much better dealing with their most valuable asset: the people! HR are the watchdog. They sit with big open windows in the building and people are on onboarding meetings advised to not stay too long in the corridors to chat or phone as HR will see and take actions. Once you are on board, you get a list of do's and don'ts. Some are quite remarkable: no deos, take showers, hair lenght of men, skirt lenght of ladies, iron your clothes and and and. I saw quite weird things in this company and heard awful stories about how disrespectful the management (also US) treat its employees. It is the most unprofessional company I ever worked for.

Pros

- well organised working environment, - professional but very intensive, 6 months, 9 hours/week training program for new employees - prepare (probably) for studying after working hours, writing tests and essays after each class - average salary with attractive benefits i.e. transport allowance, health insurance contribution, 13th salary, 8% holiday entitlement

Cons

- no real possibilities to grow within the company, if you are not very ambitious or you don't have good education but you are disciplined, well organised and hard working person it's job for you - young management, they are doing they best but they seemed to be overworked and not very good prepared for their roles, - strict working policies e.g. you are not allowed to use perfumes - getting this list on the the first day of work gives you a very bad first impression of the company, - punch-in and punch-out in the morning, when you leave work and before/after 30 minutes lunch break and from what I heard this is strictly controlled and can give you problems if you are coming even few minutes late, - since almost all the doors have punch-in system to open them (apart from toilets and one of the kitchen) you have the sensation of working in a jail, - Extron in Amersfoort Schothorst is located in the middle of nowhere - no shops in a walking distance, only IKEA but you have too little time to go there, in the building there are 2 coffee machines and one with sweet/salt food, - HR people are not very nice and helpful and it's not nice when they are all the time looking up when you go to the toilet or to the kitchen for coffee break (control?), people are scared of them, - think if you want to work in a typical US call-center, open space, cubicles, no access to fresh air etc., - Extron has a very bad opinion in the Netherlands - "place to work if you are not ambitious"
