The company culture leaves a lot to be desired.

Pros

I was really excited when I first came to Extron. The employees work hard--they have great products and are one of the most recognized names in the industry. The pay was excellent and I was looking forward to a great opportunity.

Cons

The hiring process should have given me a clue. First of all, HR called my previous employer BEFORE I had even considered an offer. Talk about awkwardness! Then, I was interviewed for a good 4 hours, finishing up with HR. About 10 minutes after I left, I got a call from HR offering the job and was asked if I could give them a response NOW. I told them I needed 24 hours to look over the offer. Once the offer was mailed/faxed the next day (I can't recall which), I needed to go for a physical/drug test, including a NICOTINE test. (If you're a smoker, don't even think about applying here). Thankfully I don't smoke, so this was not an issue. Over the year and a half I was there, I did not have a single performance review. Therefore, I couldn't tell from management whether I was doing a great job or not. I was so glad to have left while I could.

Pros

The few friends I have made while working here. Since this is "Pro" section I will remain positive. The few select friends I made, have made this job worth getting up for everyday. There are only a FEW honest, good people here.

Cons

This is the worse company I have ever worked for! Why? 1.) HR rules with an iron fist and have way too much power. I blame Andrew, he continues to let this happen. 2.) It is a sad situation when people see or hear that HR is walking around, employees scatter like cockroaches! The ones that don't, wont last long, simply because they aren't intimidated. 3.) HR will literally drive around the parking lot to see if they can catch anyone doing anything. I guess their brooms would look too obvious. 4.) HR also have their own set of moles. What is a mole? A mole is someone who walks around the department(s) to see what other people are doing. They walk around to see what is on your computer screen, who you are talking to, what you are talking about, and how long your break was. 5.) The evil forces in HR make the wicked witch from The Wizard of Oz, look like a Fairy God-Mother! Be careful who you make friends with at Extron. Everything and anything can and will get back to people. Keep to yourself and you MIGHT keep your job. 7.) Lastly, it just takes one person to not like you. If they are buddy buddy with HR, or are friends with people who are...then you won't last!

Pros

Makes you value life a lot more. But like the sauna or the tanning bed...don't stay in for too long.

Cons

Looking towards the sweet release of death. The most backwards run company I've had the displeasure of working for. It's a private company so the owner's (Andrew) word is the law. I can deal what that. The strange part is HR has the first and last say on everything else. Huh? They will 'layoff' anyone at anytime without warning. Even some of the managers has no clue it was coming. They treat everyone like a 2-year old child that can't be trusted. Salary employees has to clock in and out. And if you didn't do your 40 hr for the week, you'll be lucky if you only got called in to the manager's office. Think 'heartless' is a required skill in the HR job postings. They make all the witches and evil step-mothers in the fairy tails seem like Mother Teresa. The rest of the upper management doesn't have a pair of brass balls among them. They only say what they think those above the food chain wants to hear.
