Pros

Co-Workers, Pension Plan, Bonus, Vacation Time

Cons

FHLBC became a toxic work environment over the last few years. Used to be a great place to work for. The changes they made in HR totally messed things up. No open door policy whatsoever. Can't count on them for anything. Lucky if you can reach anyone. No follow-up. Way too much politics. If you are a butt kisser, you move up and get a great bonus. AVP titles they now give out like crazy if you are in the click of "favorites". If you don't follow the new way, bye, bye, see you later. Reviews are really no longer based on your work but, on how many D&I sessions you attend. I'm all for Diversity and Inclusion but they shove it down your throats. Not a top 20 work place. They pretty much forced you to complete the form to submit the company to make this list. A few good ones on the executive management team. I'm glad I had one of the good ones. The executive team really needs to listen to everyone more, not just the choice few. My understanding is that a lot of people are leaving now. What does that tell you. Listen to all your employees. The people are too stressed out from working so much and not getting rewarded for doing a good job (the real workers, not the favorites. They reap the rewards of what the real workers do) Thank the good lord i'm gone from this place!!!!!!

We appreciate you sharing your comments regarding your experience. While Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is an important goal to the Bank, completing the DEI goal is only one component of our comprehensive performance management review process. It also includes personal performance based on evaluation and feedback from managers, team goals, and bank-wide goals. There are various avenues for employees to provide feedback, including designated HR Business Partners assigned to each business group, employee resource groups, working groups, or during team meetings. However, employees are not obligated to participate in any activity if they do not wish to do so; we only ask that employees be respectful and treat others fairly. There will always be room for improvement at any organization; however, it takes employees at all levels to provide input and identify areas for improvement. When employees make their concerns known, we listen and try to identify the best solutions for all parties.

Pros

Generous PTO, ok benefit, not challenging work

Cons

Too many connection hires and promotions. No fair competition and zero transparency. Every department is run like a family business with the department head having the final say on everything with no surveillance. Often time you found some average performers getting promoted every few years or taking a position created just for him/her. The only answer to that puzzle is his or her parents know the executives or have some sort of connections. The competencies used during the annual review is just a tool to block your advancement if you are not part of their small circle or the perfect time for retaliation if you ever had any disagreement with your boss, but another great opportunity for their favorites to be handed over much bigger bonuses. Don’t be fooled by the management classes that HR made everyone take. It is just a show like all the D&I talks. HR won’t listen to your concerns or complaints unless you already had something lined up. HR drills into your head on your first day this is the best place to work. If you don’t like it, it’s your loss.

Our HR team works hard to make sure we have an equitable and transparent performance management process that values all perspectives. We have seen many internal promotions and transfers that demonstrate our commitment to career growth at FHLBank Chicago. In fact, through June of 2022, we have seen 62 job growth opportunities, promotions and transfers due to a dedicated effort to promote and hire from within and increase internal applicants.

Pros

Good Benefits and 401K Plan

Cons

Nepotism is hitting the sky. Forget about career growth and promotions. Stay away from FHLBC’s MCS (Member Credit Service) department, horrible and incompetent management. They have no respect whatsoever for people working under them. Low pay as compare to market. No work life balance. Very stressful environment.

We are disappointed to hear that your experience is not a positive one with FHLBank Chicago. In Bank-wide employee surveys conducted over the past two years 92% of respondents agreed that they are supported by their manager, 95% agreed that the work they do makes a difference at the Bank and 83% reported that they are treated with respect, regardless of their hierarchical level. We encourage employees if their experiences do not align, or they have a specific concern, to speak to their HR Business Partner. We value all of our employees and want everyone to have a successful and balanced work life in support of our mission and our members.
