Pros

Product fits needs in the marketplace so no reductions due to financial concerns. Company has nice year over year revenue growth (which the executive management makes a point to tell the employees constantly).

Cons

By any reasonable standard this company is completely micromanaged. You will be measured constantly, watched and questioned about everything you do, asked for opinions and be publicly scorned for them, and under the concept of Accountability be made to endure or provide public apologies for slightest transgressions. No annual reviews or raises. PTO/time off policy has ridiculous restrictions. Leadership will smile at you one moment and walk you the next. Management is very petty. Turnover is RAMPANT. I know people who are unemployed who I won't recommend this company to. If you quit on your own they will treat you like dirt, like they can't believe you wouldn't want to work there. No employee advocates because family members hold top positions throughout including HR. That top workplace designation is a joke too. Departments are small and employee demographic questions are asked. If you give negative feedback many employees fear they can be identified by management despite the advertised anonymity.

Pros

Nice office. Vacation/PTO is about standard for the area. Salary is close to standard for the area (I think), Tampa is just terrible for tech in general. If you perform you'll be one of the favorites (doesn't mean they'll pay you market wage, you'll just be liked and can get away with little things). It is a decent place in the Tampa Bay area to get started in tech. I know of a couple of successful engineers working at other companies who started at FW. It is a cool space to be in. Auditing, compliance, etc is just going to continue growing in the future.

Cons

The software is seriously outdated, it's not COBOL like the one post said, but the architecture is terrible for their use case. I can't even believe people use this when there are FREE alternatives that do the job better. Instead of fixing the issues the CEO decided to go for a new market... so FairWarning is no longer a leader in the category THEY CREATED in KLAS, which is patient privacy monitoring. The main issue with the software is there's a tremendous amount of technical debt and it's running on seriously outdated technology for the task it is doing. I think they've put themselves in a corner because they basically missed the "cloud computing" wave. Culture here is just a terrible facade. Culture means "work for less money than you should make". They aren't going to get or keep good talent with the ridiculous culture. The public shaming is very real. Some people have had to publicly apologize to the whole company (which was due to management oversight but management did CYA and threw their boy under the bus). The culture results in a ton of brown nosing suck ups and yes men working for the company. Some of Sr Management is really good and I'd say there's only 1 or 2 that aren't too good, it's mainly the mid-level managers and employees that brown nose terribly.

A company in flux

Pros

The people are amazing. FairWarning spends a lot of time vetting candidates before hiring. While this process can seem a little excessive what you end up getting are people who want to be there and strive to work hard. You're at work 8 plus hours a day, if you don't like your co-workers it's a problem. You will not find that here. The opportunity to learn, grow and push your comfort zone are all available. This is not a place to hide or blend in, you have a room of top performers that are team players.

Cons

Have you ever walked into a situation and thought there was something a bit off? This is that place. Leadership tends to keep things close to the chest and despite all hands meetings every Monday there is a sincere lack that transparency perceived. This company is ran by a family. They are all extremely capable but there is no HR, no employee advocates and no way to mediate with management should a need arise. Everyone is cheerful but below the surface it feels as if you could get fired at any moment without recourse. This has been touched in other posts but the CEO can put people in uncomfortable positions where he looks like he is bullying them. I was never sure if he could see this or not but there was an extreme blind spot when it came to employees. It did not seem as if he or senior leadership trusted anyone. This could be a result of the industry they are in but there was a total lack of trust perceived. The company will tout that it is profitable and growing. This may be true but sales have slacked. This could be a result of a changing industry or something more but that decline in sales had a negative impact on the psyche of the workforce. If I could sum up my time here it was one where I learned something new everyday but also watched leadership degrade and minimize the workforce. The new hires are mostly young , right out of school. Not a bad thing but those with experience seem to spend time and leave as soon as they can. It doesn't have anything to do with loyalty it has to do with the total lack of respect given to the employees.
