Pros

Excellent coworkers - the best group of coworkers I've ever had, actually. Modern facility, pleasant atmosphere, decent pay. These are really the only things that make it tolerable.

Cons

Where to begin? Terrible management, all the way from mid level to senior management. This company is notorious for nepotism. Your chances of advancing, if you have a relative in management are much, much greater. Terrible benefits. When I started there, they were decent, but every year, Fairview takes more and more away from its employees. Its truly awful how much they do not value their employees, and do not stand by their own mission statement. They know you're replaceable, and will remind you of that, just in not so many words. Don't even get me started on the lack of parking on the East Bank campus, and how they handle that. Also, there is no mutual respect between the different departments in the hospital. I could list cons forever, but I won't.

Pros

The pay checks usually clear, but don't expect them to ever get larger.

Cons

The outlook for this company is grim; there is no money to do anything unless it is putting out a fire. In fact, that is the only way anything gets done is if there a breach, a failure, an emergency. The most unqualified people are watching the most critical systems. The most overqualified people are doing mundane tasks. There is no room to move, no chance to advance, no plan for improvement or training unless you are hired in far below your market value (then enjoy the training while you can get it). Things move slow where there are no fires. Vendors are brought in to do the serious, fun, resume-building work because noone wants to be set up for the blame game if something goes wrong. The best employees just disappear. No explanation and the ones left behind are often the ones that got fired somewhere else. This is simply the most toxic environment I have ever witness and I am ashamed to tell people I worked here as long as I did.

Pros

like the clinic I work in love to avoid upper management. try to ignore their unrealistic goals as much as possible and because I am not sure they know we even exist most of the time we are left to our own devises for now.

Cons

upper management and the CEO are completely out of touch with any semblance of day to day medical practice. when I have tried to participate in changing policy , the upper management has actually talked about the doctors and nurses as if they were chattle that needed to be coddled and how they could "get them to do things" that were above what was needed , even though we were sitting in the room with them.!it was pretty insulting. so I don't bother with that anymore and just try improving my patients lives and while I continue to practice evidence based medicine , I won't just order tests to " get that check mark done!" let's get real people. you have enough pull now that you should be pushing back on the wastefulness that some of these supposed "quality measures " are supposed to be bringing. Have you noticed how many have dissappeared over the years due to lack of evidence? corporate medicine has a limited shelf life and I will be happy when it dies.
