They pulled a bait and switch. I was hired on over a year ago with the understanding that my role would be 100% remote permanently. I turned down a hybrid role at another employer for this benefit. Not with nearly zero advance warning, it’s just dropped on all of us that we have to report to an office. Me commuting to work would mean 4 hours of driving time a day. I can’t do that and still get my 8 hour workday in, which means I’d also have to flex my time and make up hours every single Saturday just to stay at 40 hours. The new CEO doesn’t care. He’s just trying to quiet fire all of us who can’t make this work.

Tells their employees that they are now "permanently" virtual, then later turns around and springs on everyone via email suddenly that we have to go back in the office. They don't care about people with compromised health, children, or any situation that virtual work suits better. My opinion: they don't want too many people to collect unemployment after being laid off, so they're making changes that they know will cause people to quit instead. GREAT company, really cares about their employees. Right?
