Pros

Very solid exposure to financial analysis, in addition to a solid corporate culture, and much room to grow. My co-workers made the office a very lively place and provided many opportunities for positive collaboration on projects. It is very easy to get promoted to a "Senior Financial Analyst" which has no additional bearings outside of the title. While most of these promotions do not entail salary raises, the acknowledgment is definitely a positive thing and the fact that the company doles out promotions echoes the importance they place on recognizing their hard-working employees. Overall, I was very satisfied with my work here.

Cons

It seems as though there is a bit of a "glass ceiling" for those employees without MBA's from highly regarded B-Schools.

Pros

I have worked at Farmers for nine years. In these nine years, I have been promoted three times and had the opportunity to relocate once. I find employees are very loyal, very committed to our customers and are rewarded for their performance. I think senior management is responsive and listens to employees.

Cons

You might have to relocate to move ahead (particularly if you work with our agency force). This isn't necessarily a bad thing....but it's not for everyone. The culture is conservative but it's an insurance company....what do you expect?

Pros

It is a fun environment, it pays extremely well for the area, all of the people are wonderful, the compensation package is top of the line.

Cons

I did not like being stuck on the phone in the call center arrangement. I would have loved the job if it had been structured like an office setup, personal responsibility for breaks and lunch, etc. I was also disappointed that less than a month after I hired on, they changed their compensation package. It is still a very competitive package, but I selected Farmers as an employer because they were one of the few companies that still offered a pension plan in compensation package. I clearly stated in my interview that this was one of the draw for me to the company, when asked. Yet my interviewer never let on that the company would no longer be offering that to new employees, which I was going to be.
