Pros

Federated does seem to try it’s best to fit new hires into a department that interests them. The retirement package and salary are great

Cons

No full-time remote work is allowed, so working in office can cause problems with employee interactions. From my perspective, there may be some coworkers that may be used to ostracizing, nepotism, and being passive aggressive to others, creating what seems to be an almost-high school like atmosphere. An example of this I could imagine would be a couple of people on a project that seem like nice people, but they actually go out of their way to bad mouth others behind their back and exclude others who they don’t like. As with office jobs in general, just be careful with who you interact with, even if a coworker seems friendly and involved in their community like coaching.

Has its ups and downs

Pros

- Training sets you up to be successful. - You can easily move up if you impress the right people. - Pension and 401k match - Decent work life balance, my office management says it will be there tomorrow and you aren’t looked down on for leaving at your scheduled time. - Co-workers are the best people I have worked with. Little to no drama in our office. - Develop good relationships with some Insureds who actively try to help you do your job. - Pay is pretty standard for industry, but starting to fall short due to inflation.

Cons

- Upper management is completely out of touch. Trying to run all services office like it’s Owatonna in the 1980s. - No WFH option. Allowed as an “on needed” basis, but they allow it for some people more than others. - Huge lack of diversity. It’s a white conservative old man’s club. Upper management consists of few women and POC. Service offices aren’t much better. - People retiring in droves right now. Federated fails to acknowledge the changes that need to be made in order to attract and retain new and young talent. - Terrible response to COVID. Forced back to the office in the height of the pandemic. Their soul reasoning was “our culture”.

Not a great work environment

Pros

Benefit plan is good. Pension and rule of 85.

Cons

Very traditional (e.g. no remote work) and slow to progress. Pockets of management are terrible and there's no way for employees to challenge them. Highly political. C-suite (and Board) is mostly male and have a long tenure which makes fresh ideas and change difficult.
