Pros

The culture is one of respect for co-workers at all levels. People really do care about your life outside of work. I have met some wonderful people there that I will always stay in contact with. Too many themes and flavors of the week to promote productivity and increase morale. But they do really cute things like ice cream socials, all types of charity promotions, flue shot day, etc... In the last few years, they seemed to have nailed down certain slogans that teams incorporated into their daily work. I started my career there out of school, and learned how important image and perception is correlated to what opportunities your manager or senior person will give to you. Great place to start a career. I worked in Operations, so the raises sucked, but my hours were pretty much 8:30 to 5. Most people are out by 5 in the Ops group. All the internal systems that are meant for the employees to navigate through technology requests, benefits and pay are fantastic. Most of the time, you are given the right tools to succeed in your job. Metrics reporting sucked. But if you come in with a positive attitude then you will get one back most of the time.

Cons

I would say the salaries are not competitive and merit increases are insignificant, but at the same time, there was never a year when an increase did not happen, or when a bonus was cancelled.

Pros

There are a lot of different areas of the company which allows for a lot of opportunity. You can spend many years there and actually experience a number of different careers. Unfortunately, it takes a lot of personal career management and "political" savy to get the opportunities. Fidelity is very innovative in their use of technology. They have an amazing technology research center where they are constantly are looking to improve their systems.

Cons

Very old school culture. If you haven't been with the company for at least 10 years it feels like no one listens to you. There is also a very strong aversion to change, you hear things like "this is the way Fidelity does it" and "Ned (the Chairman) likes it to be this way". Unfortunately, I think people are afraid to question the way things are done. Also, it is a large (50k employees) private company that is mostly family owned, so trying to drive change is almost impossible.

Pros

Privately held company, high-level of ethics, decent pay

Cons

They take advantage of high-performers, They would rather listen and be driven by consultants with MBAs rather than their own people, They are right now de-leveling the organization and enforcing a uniform corp structure without regard to what actually makes sense, They are easily lured to thinking that process improvement strategies are going to have a huge impact on the business (such as Six Sigma and Transformation)
