Pros

Good management of the Employer services part of the company meant it was a great place to work in IT. Many opportunities to shine but it required hard work and you need to be a self starter. If you want to gain skills in running projects, managing up or down and overall leadership, FESCo was a wonderful environment.

Cons

Other Fidelity business units are not as well managed, if you do not work in a group with good leadership you may have a different experience altogether. Security is tight, you will go through extensive background checks and must adhere to the companies many policies. As with any large company, there is a reasonable amount of red tape and paperwork to get anything done. Internal IT services in this company are particularly inefficient.

Pros

A good opportunity to get professional licenses, job experience, a good benefits package, and salary opposed to commission.

Cons

The job sucks the soul out of people. You will get paid next to nothing because Fidelity is the Walmart of the financial services industry (i.e. low cost provider). The company is top heavy and bottom heavy.. Middle management are complete puppets with cozy jobs but no input. The company has a sweatshop mentality and does not see its employees at added value. They breed mediocrity in all aspects of job performance.

Pros

The company is highly profitable; compensation is on the generous side; there is a lot of diversity among the people; there are many opportunities and challenges for growth; the benefits are generous; there are opportunities to be an entrepreneur.

Cons

Current and prospective employees should be careful in the short term as the transition is causing a lot of turmoil. You can get purged no matter how good you are. Some of the generous benefits are being trimmed back, such as the pension plan.
