Classic Sweatshop

Pros

Awesome dealflow, forefront of the FinTech world, great exposure from Day 1 in regards to operations and machinations of young, emerging businesses

Cons

This place thinks that the only thing employees value is salary and will milk everything they can out of junior resources. Employees who do stay here for a while normally are too far down the road in their careers to move up to a more prestigious shop or lack the social / communicatory skills (a certain VP in NYC who fits this bill to a tee) to be successful at larger platforms.

Don't trust the facade

Pros

Given a lot of responsibility (even if a lot of it is menial tasks) Everyone (for the most part) is very friendly / nice on a surface level If you stay for the long haul, you're pretty much guaranteed to keep moving up the hierarchy and earn an above-street salary

Cons

A lot of menial / admin-like tasks that take up a lot of your day You will spend hours / days working on a deck or a project that literally never gets used Senior members have absolutely no regard for anyone's personal lives. Expect to work on holidays, during vacations and trips, on weekends, at 4 am... pretty much be at their beck and call. As mentioned by previous reviews, analysts bond over how much they hate it at the firm, but don't you dare ever say anything close to neutral or negative to HR / senior level management... Cult-ish company culture where difference in personalities and interests isn't appreciated here Can be a very unsupportive and competitive environment of comparing who works harder / who works more, so you are unlikely to receive support if you are feeling stressed as someone else will always have it worse and will make sure you know so

Pros

Little to no pitching and great deal flow Associates are qualified and for the most part are very willing to coach Autonomy to work directly with client CEO's / CFO's if you prove yourself early Generally, as long as you are responsive, get your work done and join calls no one cares if you get in late after a long night or work from home on the weekend Own all aspects of the deal and learn a lot Establishing training programs Above market bonus

Cons

Long hours including weekends, was not unexpected but never really adjust to it Heavy volume of material created for clients (multiple 150+ page decks per deal) created by one, maybe two analysts. Pays off for our clients and the firms reputation but someone has to pull it together High deal flow and poor processes lead to a significant amount of work by the jr team keeping the sr team informed
