Pros

Flexibility, teamwork, great communication, leaderships, opportunities for growth, personal development

Cons

Job security. In this position you work directly with a Financial Advisor. If something were to happen to this advisor, such as they leave the company, your job could be at stake as well. It's best to try and get employed with multiple advisors.

Family First Company

Pros

At First Command, the culture is different from any other financial firm. This industry can be aggressive, but advisors work together to help each other succeed because they genuinely care. This company values family first, and it is seen from leadership on down. I am grateful I can work for a company where I can leave work on a whim for a sick child or take my family on a vacation after a hard year's work. We do lots of family friendly events, so our kids all know each other as well. The training this company gives advisors is also wonderful- there are so many resources and experts to reach out to when an advisor has questions on something they might not have expertise in.

Cons

Much of the compensation is deferred, so the first few years of work can be a struggle for a new advisor financially. Especially if it is the only income for that family. Much of the day-to-day training for new advisors falls on the district level, so the training received can vary across the company.

Thank you for sharing some of the benefits of a career with First Command, including scheduling flexibility and extensive training. We are committed to creating and sustaining a culture that inspires our employees and Advisors and makes them feel appreciated, supported and part of the First Command family. Our Advisors go through a structured and extensive training program designed to equip them to succeed as independent contractors. Through the program, Advisors learn how to build and grow their own business, serve new clients and provide quality, face-to-face financial coaching. They learn how to coach our clients to become financially disciplined and confident in their pursuit of financial security. Advisors are offered a full array of employee benefits and are salaried during the training period. Our Advisors are eligible to earn a strong income through competitive industry commissions on sales of financial products, plus additional annual and deferred compensation. Pros

As a financial advisor, I love being in a position to put people on the path to financial success. I literally change people's lives. First Command is a great company that knows what it does and keeps its focus on the mission. The company is focused on doing the most that it can to make sure everyone has what we need to be successful. Work conditions depend on where you live, but you have the ability to shape your situation.

Cons

No job is perfect; no company is perfect. The same is true for First Command. This is also not a 9 to 5 career. If you want a 9 to 5, keep it moving. The hours are long. The work is fulfilling, but there is a LOT to learn. It's not something that you can pick up overnight.
