Pros

Flatiron is an amazing, special place to work. I've been here two years now and can't imagine leaving. Aside from being a part of the incredible mission, they really live up to the values on their website. The founders are accessible and thoughtful about people and their happiness and development (lots of management training, fair, thorough performance review process etc). Decisions are made based on un-emotional logic and cross-functional feedback rather than top-down bureaucracy. People are open to being wrong. Change happens quickly. I was extremely surprised to even see some negative reviews on here as they don't reflect the overall feeling at Flatiron -- people are happy. Very few people have left and the engagement survey scores (which measures things like happiness) were off the charts!

Cons

Lots of snacks, but wish there were more unhealthy options :-) It's hard work, though people are reasonable in their expectations of you, e.g. very flexible hours, unlimited vacation.

Pros

I'm in my third month and my immediate observations are that the colleagues are highly collaborative, the learning curve is realistic, impact on the business can be swift and proximity to a wide variety of practices keeps one continuously intellectually stimulated. I sincerely enjoy the work itself, and look forward to the many opportunities that lead to working alongside new teams in new and creative ways.

Cons

The rate of growth will inevitably mean that maintaining the collaborative and close vibe amongst colleagues will be difficult. As Flatiron approaches the 300 employee mark, this will be a pro that may not be around for long.

Pros

This company houses some of the brightest and most compassionate colleagues I've ever had the pleasure of working alongside. Whenever you need assistance, there's always someone highly skilled and willing to lend a hand. The company's mission is commendable, particularly when compared to other healthcare data companies. We benefit from the guidance of medical experts, practicing oncologists, and clinical professionals who actively shape our data curation. Compensation seems reasonable given the company's size and nature, though opinions may vary among different job roles and departments. For designers, it's advantageous that we have a CDMO advocating for design at the leadership level, ensuring that designers don't have to report to Sales, Marketing, or Product teams.

Cons

Flatiron is currently in a transformative phase. This transition has led to a few key observations: - The organization lacks a clear product management vision, notably without a CPO, and the product VPs end up reporting to Sales/GM. - Long-tenured Product Managers often struggle with user-facing products and services, as their expertise lies in data pipeline management. We don't have a unifying product management philosophy - Hiring for new Product Managers sometimes prioritizes the wrong qualities. - Many PMs do not understand the value of design, qualitative, or quantitative research in the early phases of product definition. - Decision-making tends to be overly cautious and slow, even when it doesn't directly impact patient care or physicians. Getting approval for proposals, even at the VP level, can be challenging, affecting engineers and designers.
