Pros

Flexport is such a great company to work for. It's the new age of freight forwarding. A game changer. Super smart people. Great benefits. Awesome new office! Dog friendly! Buffet lunch everyday!

Cons

Long hours! Understaffed for customs brokers which can be stressful. Not just on them but other members of the operation!

Pros

The mission and vision are great !

Cons

I had joined flexport reading great reviews at Glassdoor as well hearing management including top executives are very receptive, open minded about getting honest employee feedback to build the culture . But my experience was totally contradictory. I had to leave the company my manager who recently joined Flexport seemed to join with the mindset all previous work had to be fixed and she did not take time to build rapport with the current team instead she replaced her current team members including me with her past acquaintances. In the name of cost cutting one employee was being replaced by multiple new hires at higher salaries. Hiring was done purely based on past acquaintance, no proper job postings, job descriptions and interview was being secretive done outside at coffee shops. My manager or upper management was not able to justify my lay-off though they said performance yet no feedback was ever provided or no performance ratings ever reflected that . This definitely discouraged me and seemed quite unjustified as I had spent long hours away from family to deliver the results and meet deadlines.

Pros

Flexport is first and foremost a tech company, working on modernizing the freight forwarding industry. I was shocked when I joined by how genuinely open the culture was and still is. Every employee is sent to "Flexport Academy", a two-week program in which you travel to San Francisco and learn about the industry, company, values, and mission. I joined the Chicago office when it was small, and we've grown to a size of 60-70 people in less than a year. It's genuine growth based off need and portfolio expansion. The culture has inevitably changed a bit due to the large size and different teams, but the underlying community and radical transparency is still there. This role is incredibly fulfilling It's basically half operations (moving shipments around the world using our software) and half account management (working with clients to improve transparency and performance in their supply chain). The Operations function is, in many ways, the core component of the company and you get to be a voice and tester in many new features. There is constant improvement and feedback and positivity in this culture - I love it after a year and I highlight recommend getting in to Flexport now however you can!

Cons

This role is challenging and sometimes you need to be available in the evening or early morning. Generally, freight is a morning industry. There are growing pains in which sometimes new processes, teams, or other information is not properly "rolled out". Things just happen without warning. Teams are actively working on this and you should feel free to raise concerns without any fear of retribution.
