Pros

There are many opportunities to learn outside your day-to-day responsibilities. Management is generally understanding and willing to work with people as people rather than numbers.

Cons

It's unstable. We haven't sold a lot of jobs in the last several years, so the parking lot keeps on getting emptier. Employees are frustrated. Upper management is fixated on revolution (which naturally goes nowhere) when we need evolution. The lip-service to new approaches is there, but the execution is lacking. There is no pipeline, or if there is it's too easy to fall off. There is zero budget for training.

Pros

Good salary, interesting and challenging work, talented workforce, good access to technical resources, 9-80 schedule

Cons

You are a glorified contract worker despite being a salaried worker. Typically you will be hired for a specific new project award. Once executed you are not assured new work will be available afterwards. Office staff goes through hire and fire cycles too often (+/- 18 mos) to ever be comfortable. Engineering and associated staff are not valued by higher management as retaining talent is not a priority and goal is to increase share of work to offshore at cheaper rate.

Pros

Decent benefits, 401k match, work life balance can be ok if you force it

Cons

Poor management with no vision, aging workforce, only most senior executives get meaningful incentive compensation, good-ole-boy crony network is very strong
