I left this company because of the management at store 742 in Wilmington North Carolina.
1. I was a part time employee but they would have me come in 48 hours a week, however, I would only get paid for 40. How they managed that was on Monday they would make me stay an hour to two hours over my shift and tell me that I could compensate by leaving early another day. However, instead of allowing me to leave early they would force me to take two hour lunches. What is worse is I was a full time college student and they knew this and continued to have me come in for ridiculous hours.
2. They would change my schedule on me multiple times during the week which included everything from continuously being called on my days off for a period of six months (which at that point there is no excuse for that… understaffing and emergencies are one thing but come on).
3. As a part time employee I worked 23 days in a row because I was called on my days off. Then one day, when my boss called me in on my day off AGAIN I told him that I was unable to come in because I was sick and he inferred that I was weak.
4. The management doesn’t understand allotting holiday hours so if you work Thanksgiving you will work Christmas eve too, despite working there for many years and having seniority. If you didn’t work thanksgiving well that’s great because you probably won’t work any holiday. Those that work holidays work every holiday and those that don’t… don’t.
5. Employees are scolded and yelled at in front of customers and other employees
The turnover rate for this store is about 6 to 9 months. This store had me vomiting because of the amount of stress, harassment, and long hours they put me through while I still was attending six classes a semester. I have been employed at two other food lions where there was not any problems so it definitely depends on the store, and this is one you need to stay away from!
