Worst job I've ever had

Pros

- Very intelligent and interesting people work here. - Culturally very young and lively. The people around you will make it feel worthwhile for a long time. - Interesting-ish problems to solve - Some managers are really good, but others are very aligned with senior leadership in EQ.

Cons

- No work life balance possible at this job. Expect to regularly hear about other engineers getting "project codenamed"d as a verb for staying past 7pm. - Regular reorganization and layoffs. A 9% r&d layoff happened after the first ever profitable quarter. Great reward. Many had no warning in previous performance reviews. - Callous senior leadership has the EQ of three year olds learning the word "mine" for the first time. - Hemorrhaging real talent as engineers realize they're being overworked and underpaid. Expect to have interns propping up critical parts of the company and important information to disappear every 3 months. - No concept of timeline and what can actually be done. Totally unrealistic expectations given limited staffing to layoffs and quiting. Running 4 simultaneous major R&D programs with a fraction of historical engineers on those programs. - Pay is abysmal for silicon valley level work expectations. I'm paid more at a 4 person small business firm than here. - Unlimited time off is very pressure and manager based. I know many people who did not use it out of fear. - No 401k matching - A new work culture of fear, competition, and intense pressure to perform. It does not work and it will continue to push away anyone who has any life outside of work. - I cannot more strongly recommend not working at a place. This job permanently damaged my mental and physical health and the mental health of those around me. It has taken me months to recover from the pressure and stress I was under here. Before working here STRONGLY consider why they are riding a 3.0 on glassdoor right now.

Pros

- A multicultural team with lots of colleagues from outside Hungary. As a foreigner, it is a very welcoming environment. The people working at Formlabs are frequently reported as people’s favorite thing about the job. - Many benefits similar to other young tech companies on the market, and in many cases exceeding them. - The company has taken salary bench-marking and inflation correction seriously. They want the best talent in the Budapest office and are making the investment necessary to do so. - Supporting an interesting line of products. The printers offer engaging and complex technical challenges to solve as a support team. As employees, we also are interested in using the products on our own time to work on personal projects or making stuff for fun. It’s a significant difference to say, supporting B2B logistics software. - Professional customer base. The customers and partners Formlabs supports are all professionals, and express themselves in a constructive manner. Reports of customer service agents receiving communication with abusive language are extremely infrequent. - Striving for improvement. Formlabs is a company that puts the resources necessary behind solving the problems that customers experience. It’s not always a quick process, but it does happen eventually.

Cons

- Expectations are high for every employee. For people who get satisfaction of pushing themselves and working hard, this is a plus. However, when your life outside of works becomes busy and stressful, it’s safe to assume your life at Formlabs will not slow down. - Changes happens quickly. The work and the expectations will constantly be changing, and you will be expected to keep up with them and consistently perform to a high standard. - A current bias towards filling open roles with external talent. Formlabs is looking for employees who can perform the functions of every job to a high level, and generally would prefer to bring external talent in to fill that gap. If you are looking to grow your career or your skill set, your mobility may be limited for most opportunities.

Pros

- great benefits such as catered lunch, a modern office space which is well-stocked with snacks, coffee, and whatever your heart wishes, frequent team building events, stock options, contribution to a sports pass, paid public transport pass, etc. - above average compensation - performance-based bonuses available for agents - a clear career ladder, clear expectations on what it takes for you to get promoted and be a good performer - hybrid work, flexible WFH policy - an interesting product line, and frequent new releases of promising products - a thorough, hands-on onboarding process - no overtime

Cons

- high expectations towards employees, targets are often raised - working hours are not flexible - communication and information flow among teams could be improved - no year-end bonus
