      Good hard working peers, atrocious management

      Pros

      Good people to work with. Good nights out. Good clients with good relationships. Good product, needs work, but a great concept.

      Cons

      I can't speak for the London office, but the bureau in Macclesfield became soul destroying. I worked there for over 3 years, first 2 were fantastic then the management changed, turnaround of about 60- 80 staff in the time I worked there which speaks for itself in an office that holds 60 members of staff. No people management, No bonuses (no matter what is promised) The management will overwork you if your capable, I have seen the strongest of personalities break.

      The employees of Fourth are some of the best people you could work with anywhere and I'm pleased this was reflected in your experience with us. In terms of our Bureau Operation in Macclesfield, we now have 2 senior leaders that support that Director of Bureau as well as a team of highly experienced payroll managers and supervisors. In addition, we have a CiPP approved payroll academy which can take someone through from a trainee with no experience to a fully accredited payroll manager. Whilst we don't have a formal bonus system, we regularly reward employees that truly embody our values - simple, honest, quality, enjoy. We aim to recognise the efforts people make frequently and fairly. As you advise, we will continue to look for ways to improve the employee experience at Fourth.

      Nice people, inadequate board level management, poor strategic direction

      Pros

      Good central office location in london

      Cons

      Clique at top line their pockets while lower level staff toil endlessly. Staff expected to work on Christmas day as a norm. Board unable to create and stick to long term strategic goals. Many short term initiatives sway the company from one direction to another, are not seen through and are their cost not understood. Products are old, patched on top off and are dangerous for clients to get on board.

Whilst all our employees do work tremendously hard for us at Fourth and demonstrate commitment which is second to none, this should never be to the detriment of work-life balance. Our management team are extremely passionate about our people and equally, are always looking for ways to improve on our market leading product suite. An example of this is our brand new cutting edge labour productivity technology which sits inside our Workforce Management solution. This relentless pursuit of excellence will only help us become a better organisation.

      Enjoy the Journey

      Pros

      It is a place where you can find yourself. I have been fortunate enough to work across many areas of the business in various roles and involved in many projects since starting at Fourth and it is fascinating to see the different skill sets and personalities that we have, all working towards the same goal, delivering great products and services. There is constant change (which I know to some people may not be a pro) but it is always in an effort to grow, develop and evolve the business and the products. It allows you to develop, perhaps not in the most obvious way, but if you know you can make an improvement and you want it to happen, you can make it so. The structure is very flat, the board very approachable and the office atmosphere makes working at Fourth somewhere you are happy to spend your day. I feel a part of Fourth, I made a huge career change joining and I don't regret it one bit. Plus - the staff parties are fantastic!

      Cons

      When you move at the pace that Fourth does, there can be communication issues (but hey, where isn't there?) which in turn can lead to a bit of duplication of efforts but the company always looks to address this.
