Pros

• Work from home • Flexible working culture in India • Decent compensation • Company does value loyalty and tenure

Cons

• Somewhere Fractal lost the balance of being profitable and maintaining “People Principles”. Very much focused on margins and revenue now. I do not see anything wrong with it, the sole purpose of a company is to give RoI to stakeholders; but now it is like the any other company which they earlier did not intend to and had a lot of focus on the culture. • Different culture for lateral hires and home-grown talent: A lot of people wrote about too much power in the hands of people who had joined the company in the forming years. Nothing wrong with that, most start-ups if they grow well do reward their founding team members with faster growth. Though in Fractal, it is impacting the company negatively by these folks not being groomed to handle roles at senior leadership level and being dependent on others a lot. Also, this has been demotivating lateral hires who have seen best practices in other companies but are side-lined by the home-grown talent. • Top heavy structure: Fractal promoted people sooner in the earlier years which has led to a lot of mass in the Grade 5 and 6 level. While they do maintain the experience criteria while hiring laterally but internally the promotions are viewed as means of rewarding good work and not evaluating preparedness for the role. This has led to people in mid-management and still do not have the maturity or experience in handling client conversations or driving programs or strategy • No career planning: With the new focus on billing, margins, revenue etc. managers stopped being mentors and are merely focusing on how they can get billed people for their projects. No one has imbibed the thinking of ‘Human Capital’ than ‘Human resources’. They do not check on your career focus, vision or have time to invest in people - this has led to blurred job descriptions and specially so in the US and EU. • Lack of stability: owing to the nature of projects onsite employees are expected to move for short term projects on an urgent basis. The company does not provide travel support if the project is more than 3 months in duration. Employees with families are finding it difficult to sustain in this environment.

Pros

1. Flexible timings, 2. in-house trainings (Machine learning, SQL/ R/ Python/ Visualization, etc.), 3. financial support for most of the well known external certifications 4. free food 5. cab (used for office commute) reimbursements 6. Quick turnaround and support for all HR/logisitcs/IT issues 7. Consideration (to max possible extent, see cons) towards employee's work life balance 8. Amazing rigour of client deliverables (good for Fractal and clients but sometimes a con for employee)

Cons

1. Somewhat old laptops - although last I heard was there were upgrade plans 2. Being in a client facing role sometimes has its own problems - like tight deadlines, occasional overkill on deliverable quality/compliance - this causes a work life imbalance sometimes, but this is not a fault of Fractal, rather the nature of industry I believe. In fact, I feel Fractal manages its employees much better than any other analytics consulting firm in India. I wrote this in cons section only because occasional work-life-imbalance is a con, but it is not Fractal's ownership. 3. Middle management - This is a real con. Many a times I felt the pursuit of being-best undermines employee's stress. Managers unnecessarily over commit on timelines / deliverables. and that puts stress on all involved including manager! 4. Pay scale - I think this is biggest con! My payscale was ok, but I seriously felt my team mates were under payed (I do not / did not know their salaries, but they had long pending concerns over salary hikes). Apart from low salaries, there was no significant issues, but they left the company. For a company like Fractal, who has potential to lead Indian industry, this is really a petty thing. People are more important than money! AND you also make money, please keep your employees a bit more pampered. 5. All-in for clients - Fractal is consulting firm so it is expected to go all-in for clients! But, it also has a potential of doing in-house R&D, publications, patents. Again, as industry leader, Fractal should put more focus on R&D 6. No gym (at least in Bengaluru office) / shower facilities

Pros

- Good company to start your career with - Good Learning opportunities (limited to certain teams) - Employee Friendly culture (Not anymore!)

Cons

- Manager is always right - Middle management (as per the old hierarchy: Senior consultant, Associate director) is really mediocre, and this is an understatement - Change policies without much vision, then roll them back - Struggling to get new projects, had to fire a lot of people 'cause of that (in the name of bad performance of course) - Nepotism
