Pros

My experience at Fragomen has been great. There is real sense of teamwork. The attorneys and staff really work together rather than competing with one another. The partners are also really great supervisors. They are supportive and seek out opportunities for young associates. They also encourage pro bono. It really is a wonderful place to work.

Cons

The hours can be long, especially during cap season, but that's to be expected.

Thank you for your feedback. As head of recruiting here, rest assured we're doing all we can to identify and attract new staff to support our growing business needs. We're in a niche area, and few immigration firms have the same high hiring standards as we do, so hiring experienced immigration professionals is always challenging (but we never stop trying!) But we also provide fantastic training for entry level hires to learn the immigration field. We will continue to explore all avenues to get the talent we need to support our current immigration experts. Gary Whyld, Director of Worldwide Talent Acquisition.

Pros

Great co-workers. The health plan for lower-paid employees is subsidized. The workforce is diverse and includes shrinking numbers of men.

Cons

They treat employees like shake-and-bake bags. Management talks the talk but doesn't walk the walk. A culture driven by greed. Pennywise and pound-foolish. Works hard to underpay ordinary employees, while showering partners and C-level with millions. Employee appreciation? Not so much. Benefits are paltry. Vacations are hard to schedule and since there is no coverage, there is a pile of work waiting when you get back. Lots of unpaid overtime. High level of employee turnover. High stress. Constant crisis mode; everything is urgent. Online training is offered, but who has the time for it? IT is a black hole swallowing much of the firm's money.

We're incredibly sorry you had this experience, and that you feel that the Firm has this attitude towards it's employees. For those of us on the HR side it is hard to hear. We acknowledge that Fragomen is a fast-paced, demanding, challenging environment, and we try not to sugar-coat that. We're the biggest and best immigration law firm in the world, and that means we're busy. But it certainly doesn't mean that we don't value our employees, the hard work they put in, and the sacrifices they make. We're constantly looking at ways to improve our benefits, work-life balance and general working environment. I'd love to hear more of your impressions (and those of any other current or former Fragomen employees that might feel the same way) as we work on making these changes. gwhyld@fragomen.com; Gary Whyld - Director of Worldwide Talent Acquisition
