Pros

Good PTO (we were so overworked they had to compensate up to three weeks vacation) Bagels on friday Meaningful work experience (although you just fill out forms...no real learning experience) Diversity

Cons

Condescending managers Heavy workload Crazy hours all year round Poor management Bad work culture (If you leave by standard time, which is 5:30, people think you're crazy. Lots of stressed out and rude folks on my team) No mentorship and career advisement progression High turnover rate (on my team alone and within 6 months, 9 people either quit, transferred to another department, or begrudgingly went back to school) Attorneys seem out of touch with their support staff and company as a whole. We do all of their work, bill, speak to foreign nationals, etc etc and they are constantly asking us for help on how to figure out IT/computers, certain clientele, mailroom, general questions about Fragomen. A lot of the attorneys leave super early while we do all of their work.

Pros

The experience you gain here in irreplaceable - there is so much knowledge and so many resources to utilize and learn from to really build a career in Business Immigration law. There is a process for everything and a wealth of knowledge to be learned, from practice and all the experienced staff.

Cons

Management, particularly the partners and those who make the decisions for the firm/each office, will choose the bottom line and profit over the well being of their employees. The high volume work load with the quick expected turnaround time, unrealistic client expectations, and shortness of adequate staff has created high stress work environments that have burned out a lot of paralegals who are expected to just "push through" and contribute to an "all hands on deck" attitude when already at max capacity. There is no work life balance and the culture is not sustainable long term.
