Pros

The people they hire are great to work with. The work is mediocre but the people make it worth it. Compensation for accounts are above average, which is nice.

Cons

Senior management does not know how to perform their jobs. They try very hard to be a big 4, but they're not. Leadership does not know how to perform C-level duties. Corporate offices and website "look nice" but when push comes to shove during a recession for example, when everyone else cut out office parties, they still had a glamorous one. Senior management publicly annouced that they were NOT doing lay offs, but 2 months later, they did 3 rounds of lay offs. On top of that, they did not even provide severance packages for the people they laid off. Even during the lay-offs, they threw a pricey "post tax season party." Human Resources are a joke, including the performance review process.

Pros

Challenging work, excellent clientele & early exposure to complex tax issues. Co-workers are very kind and quite easy to get along with. High learning curve with an opportunity to excel quickly.

Cons

No work-life balance observed, just a lot of talk about it. Super long hours during busy season (think a minimum of 70 to 80 true hours, maybe 60 on paper after you eat 10-20 hours to meet unreasonable budgets). No overtime and little reward to staff for long hours. Constant micro-managing from senior management can be a nuisance. Sink or swim environment with only hard skills recognized. Soft skills go unnoticed. Good place for boot camp, but not a long term destination for your career.

Pros

Navigate your own career through rotations in the departments, then select which area of the practice you're passionate about to continue your career path. Longevity in the staff through partnership, meaning you are working with people who have invested themselves in the Firm and are very experienced in what they do. Excellent training and CPE throughout your career. Genuine people who believe in helping you succeed.

Cons

As in all public accounting firms, some staff struggle with the long hours associated with deadlines.
