Past Summer Intern

Pros

I was exposed to a large variety of projects, and I was given meaningful work. The office had a strong community, and I got the impression that the company was invested in the well-being and professional development of its employees.

Cons

A large number of individuals in my office worked through their lunch break in order to get work done. From where I stood as an intern, it appeared as though most full time employees were putting in at least some overtime on a weekly basis.

GEI Consultants Response

We are delighted that you enjoyed a rich and rewarding internship experience at GEI. One of our values is to provide our employees, including interns, with an environment of constant learning and shared knowledge to help individuals develop professionally while cultivating the talent our clients have come to expect from GEI. In doing so, it is not our expectation that anyone work through their lunch break, as we focus on ensuring we offer a work environment that’s challenging yet provides flexibility and work-life balance. We encourage anyone who experiences anything otherwise to speak with their direct supervisor or any leader in our organization. Thank you for your feedback, as it allows us to make continual improvement.

Pros

Entrepreneurial culture, engaged professionals, employee-owned, well-run, knowledgeable and client-focused co-workers. Good balance of travel and home office work. Interesting projects. Great working relationships across geographies and fields. Company decision-makers are a well-balanced and diversified set of representatives.

Cons

it's a consulting firm - every now and then you have to work late to finish something. Depends on whether you like to travel as to whether that's a "con". Proposals are a necessary evil.

Pros

GEI offers a refreshing work environment and culture among so many companies who have no identity, a rigid structure or too much bureaucracy. GEI has built a culture that blends a focus on individuality and entrepreneurship with collaboration and partnership. The result is a work environment where employees feel empowered, engaged, happy and committed to the organization's success. GEI is also an employee-owned company so employees have the opportunity to have a direct say in the company's actions and future.

Cons

As GEI continues it's focus on growth, it will need to continue to be thoughtful on how to grow in a way that maintains its culture. It will be important to maintain what is great, while being adaptable and open to changes that will be necessary as the company expands.
