GNC is a joke.

Pros

Commission. Flexible hours. Minimum wage. Easy advancement.

Cons

You are required to push GNC and affiliated products, and are tracked aggressively on the amount you sell. This mostly includes VITA-Packs and chewable vitamins. As a sales associate, I worked 30ish hours a week, and as only a sales associate I was unable to switch to a full time status. Zero benefits. GNC sales associates are worse then car salesmen.

Pros

Write my own schedule. ( If you truly care about nutrition ) it’s rewarding to help customers and educate them while stacking the right products for the right results.

Cons

Very low pay for store manager work ($12 an hour) Lots and lots of stress!!! Dealing with part-timers who are paid $7.25 and don’t care about their job or nutrition. Must work weekends. Must call store everyday ( even if your off ) to check on employees. Must be on call: for any issues at your store while your not their. ( incompetent employees ) I was promoted within two months. I started out part time as a sales associate and they did things they were not supposed to do like give me a store key and make me open/close my first week by myself. On a personal note every time I’ve ever been into a GNC it’s been a bad experience. You’ve got employees in the back room chilling whole time not doing any of the work they’re supposed to do. You’ve got them sitting in the managers chair at the cash register texting. Literally some of the worst customer service I have ever seen has been at GNC. They just don’t train their people well enough to be prepared to handle complex transactions. Part-timers screw around all day. I’v caught one smoking weed in Woodbridge, Va.

Pros

I take Vitamins. However I purchase my Vitamins at Vitamin World and Vitamin Shoppe, where employees are treated fairly, along with their customers.

Cons

High pressure on the employees and also customers to purchase certain items in order to meet a quote that is set by Upper Management of the Company. DVP and above. Terrible stress levels. RSD's and above are in and out of the hospital and Dr's office's for stress related illness. Employees in stores are threaten to meet quotas, if they don't they are written up / results come to termination. If the public knew of the mistreated employees at GNC they would not shop at this company. How do I know? I worked there. Lots of untruths goes on in this company. GNC slogan is Respect Yourself.....they need to learn to respect their own employees.
