Pros

I really wanted to love working for GRAIL. The product speaks for itself...it finds multiple types of cancers, many of which we have no way to screen for. Galleri is a product that is revolutionizing multi cancer early detection (MCED). If GRAIL gets it right, this will be the standard of care for future cancer screening guidelines.

Cons

Like many other reviews have mentioned, I feel like there are leadership & toxicity issues. There's an appearance that leaders were awarded their positions by default simply because they were some of the original hires (original GRAIL'ers) called OG's. At best, they are mediocre managers. At worst, they are ineffective and unskilled leaders that have to rely on other tactics like fear, intimidation, gas lighting, and multiple ways of making you feel inferior. These are not just my feelings, but the feelings shared with dozens of other GRAIL employees I know.

Pros

GRAIL has a pattern of hiring very intelligent and accomplished people across the organization, and that is definitely true for Medical Affairs. People who come to GRAIL are uniformly motivated by the mission of catching cancer when it can be cured.

Cons

Leadership is out of touch with how to best get things done, and doesn't appreciate that highly educated and experienced people who don't have background in biopharma/device space are not necessarily qualified to hold the positions they do. This leads to a lot of bad decisions, unnecessary delays and resentment from doers who are more knowledgeable than the decision-makers in their functions and organizations. People who are good at managing up often get rewarded in the absence of any real accomplishments, which leads to promotion of incompetence that perpetuates the cycle.

Senior Management Arrogance

Pros

The company is doing good science and has the potential to help future cancer patients.

Cons

Senior management is extremely arrogant. The president has named a major part of the organization after himself, the "offman" organization. Senior management has mandated that there are no offices, that being said all of the leadership team has staked out offices for themselves. Senior leadership is very much a club where they are very friendly to each other and completely ignore those beneath them.
