Pros

They put a good emphasis on training employees in the industry. Most of the people you will work with are hard working and have a very positive attitude, there are exceptions with Gables just like with every company. Pay and bonus structure are good if you do your job well. There is a lot of great people you will meet and become friends with through company events and training classes. They try to keep things innovative, however this backfires at times.

Cons

Corporate offices are so focused on the "numbers" that they propose outrageous ideas to make them look even better. Regional offices, at least in DC, have become very political. Newer corporate management likes to bring in employees they used to work with or friends and then they usually don't take the job seriously so you end up with lazy incompetent people onsite. There is a designated hiring process for a reason, why mess with the system? Too many SOPs and many of which are great ideas in theory but are not practical when working onsite. Since I started the overall culture of the company has gone downhill and that makes me sad because when I started working for Gables I was very excited about the overall work environment.

Pros

only positive is after 10 years employees receive a 6 week paid sabbatical.

Cons

employees are mistreated. Office was always over 80 degrees. refused to provide the proper equipment to complete work properly. middle management is unwilling to train or help. middle management spreads rumors and creates a drama filled environment. middle management makes unethical and immoral decisions. there is no sense of team, it's a he said she said working environment. Gables demands a level of expectations from it's employees but refuses to compensate them appropriately. Middle management will lie to your face and hire you and then change the job description once you start working. Gables Residential will lie to you and tell you that they want you to have a healthy work/home life, but then will tell you that you need to work 60 hours a week. As a company that provides apartment homes they will raise their residents rents as much as 15%, but will not give their employees and annual increase of more than 4%, which you will be lucky to receive. The normal annual pay raise is 3%, which is a laughable COLA, not a raise. This says that it's more important for them to raise rents than it is for the residents to be able to pay for the rental increase. They pride themselves on "Taking Care of the Way People Live" this is a lie, they only care about taking care of the their own wallet. Gables will ask for you to give them everything you have and when you do and become tired and burnt out, they kick you to the curb.

Gables Residential Response

It is with regret to learn that your time spent with Gables Residential was not a great experience. We pride ourselves on not only “Taking Care of the Way People Live” but also taking care of our associates. We are proud to say that several of our associates have built their careers only with Gables. We are dedicated to associate satisfaction and engagement by strongly encouraging our associates to regularly provide feedback in our quarterly associate satisfaction surveys conducted by a 3rd party to ensure anonymity. We also have an Open Door communication policy where associates can express their thoughts and feelings without fear of retaliation. Other opportunities to voice concerns include taking them directly to our Human Resources department which is always available to assist associates with any questions or concerns that arise before, during and after employment. In addition, we also work with EthicsPoint to offer an easy way to anonymously report suspected wrong doings. Again, it is with regret to learn of your disappointment with Gables but we do wish you the best in your future endeavors.
