Garmin gave me something valuable: real cross-disciplinary experience, work that actually matters, and proof that internal mobility is possible. Writing software for avionics that pilots rely on isn't something most engineers can say they have done, and it has been an incredible opportunity.

Pros

It used to be a good place to work, flexible, good work/life balance. Nice colleagues, some interesting projects.

Cons

Since the return to office, the managers became babysitters that need to supervise us, to see what time we arrive at/leave the office. Because of course treating us as children is the best approach. Very not flexible. Would not recommend.

Good company, smart and kind people. Good leadership at least in Canada.

Cons

Promotion cycles seem slow, tied heavily to years of experience rather than actual impact. Not sure how competitive the pay is, might be good for the location but good engineers do get poached outside, probably more a Canada thing than anything.
