Pros

If there's one thing I respect in my group, it's the management. Up-front communication, very supportive of employees. I feel that I am a respected professional - a coworker/colleague of management, more than an employee. They just have a different focus, different priorities, but we are all on the same team. That's a great feeling. The benefits are also terrific - great medical, dental, 401K, etc, plus convenience items like cafeterias (pretty good), subsidized transit, company buses, etc.

Cons

I think the level to which the work has been standardized goes a bit too far sometimes. However, I think it's a hard balance to strike - if you don't have a procedure, there will be people clamoring for one, but once it's written, others will complain. I also think the scope of the job is too big for one person to keep good track of. There seems to be a lot of agreement on that point (voiced in meetings) but there does appear to be some effort in progress to find ways to redistribute the work. I've put in my share of 50+ hour weeks, but working OT from home takes off some of the sting, and it's not a constant - I often get out on time or close to it.

Pros

1) culture: really smart, decicated, and respectuful colleagues 2) management transparent communication: well, that is pre-Roche period 3) amazing professional growth opportunity: wealth of professional techinical and soft-skill courses to take on campus (and off campus); i'm also lucky to have a wonderful effective manager.

Cons

1) management lack of communication: GNE management are honest that Roche does not share as much information as GNE Sr Leadership did. 2) fearful in loss of compensation and benefits: salary at GNE is on par with market, but what makes GNE extra special is the bonus, benefits, and stock options. we fear that we'll be losing most of our bonus and our wonderful health etc benefits. they have already started to be stingy with lunch meetings, travel, and just about any other little perky-appreciation item. All of us are "demoted" when we come to GNE, e.g. director to manager, manager to associate etc, AND the promotion opportunities are limited, so the bonuses and perks to make up for a big part of why most of us are here.

Pros

Lots of resources, great company, smart people

Cons

In IT, at least, they are a bit slow out-of-the-gate about a lot of things (SAP implementation, for example) - though that is somewhat balanced by the recent "rush to all things Google" (which is really outsourcing your IT to competent engineers.
