Pros
Lots of young people there so you'll steel feel somewhat at home if you're coming right out of college. Many different types of engineering jobs to switch into or temporarily rotate into. Starting salary is on par or slightly above the industry standard. Great job security. My immediate supervisor is a great boss. There are many other good bosses at EB. Definitely some bad ones too, but that could be said about anywhere. Submarines are pretty cool.
Cons
It's a massive corporation, so you'll feel like just another replaceable cog in a giant machine, because that's exactly what you are. Little sense of respect for lower level employees from upper management. I recently saw a new hire be placed in a desk in the corner of a copy room because there was limited seating elsewhere. Parking. When a company doesn't provide enough parking for their employees and outright lies to the local media about there not being a parking problem when there is, that is just wrong. I have never heard of an engineer being fired from EB for performance issues. Ever. This means that even the worst employees, who only drag everyone else down, can stay at EB for their entire career and just coast on by. What makes this even worse is that those people are making a, most likely, very similar salary to you. This is because of the current way people are compensated, which seems to be mostly based on time at the company and not actual personal contributions. This creates an extremely frustrating environment for people who do care and would like to stand out and be rewarded for their superior performance. Massive turnover. A recent figure I heard was ~60% of engineers leave withing 5 years. Not that I can blame them, but it's tough working on projects when members keep leaving and new people have to be brought up to speed constantly. This is more of a personal thing but, for me, southeastern Connecticut is like a cultural black hole. Unless you enjoy lots of woods, living here can be very boring. The summer is better when the beaches are busy, but that's only a couple months out of the year.
