Pros

A young workforce with the more experienced very willing to offer aid. Groton is a great place to be with beaches, major cities within hours of travel, and plenty of food outlets and entertainment.

Cons

Interns should not expect to be coddled and guaranteed work all the time. Engineers should expect plenty of work however.

Pros

Sense of pride in doing something for the defense of our great nation. It is enlightening to say the least to see the inner workings of the defense industry.

Cons

It boils down to the philosophy of doing more with less. The company has mandatory overtime. They are also set in their ways. Does not promote professional growth. There is of late no sense of job security. Seems to be a yearly thing where management talks about layoffs and at the last minute they seem to come up with the funding.

Pros

Electric Boat is big enough to accommodate interest for lateral movements based on individual proffessional interests and objectives. Projects are varied in focus and are available onsite with short to longer-term durations depending on business needs. Oppurtinities for extended work assignments are regularly available. Rotation program is easy to go into. Opportunities for overtime pay for salaried employees.

Cons

Learning curve to specific assignments can be steep and little formal training is provided to engineers. Most skills are learned on the job. The company's vacation policy is about the worst I've seen with only two weeks paid vacation provided for the first 10 years. Work schedule is not flexible enough. Opportunities for promotion seem highly subjective and vary greatly depending on whose management you report to.
