Pros

Flexible working is a major great, though it is variably applied across the company. Some fantastic employees, skilled enthusiastic staff with great knowledge. Cutting edge tech, is easily mastered, and a joy to work on. Respected company by peers.

Cons

Pay is falling way behind peer companies, wake up HR, the recession is over. Zero benefits to UK employees, UK government offers numerous tax free incentives for employers to give employees, UK HR seems unwilling to implement.

1984 revisited

Pros

1. Too many Russians 2. Essential rules for working at this place - a. There is a hierarchy. b. The hierarchy has to be followed without exception. c. The hierarchy is made of lapdogs. d. The lapdog cannot bark. If he does, then the concept of organization is broken and he must be punished. 3. If these rules are met then this is truly among the best places to work! 4. Free coffee

Cons

1. Seen the movie or read 1984? No doubt the setting was in a Russia lookalike. 2. Too many Russians 3. Sycophancy above merit. You are successful if you are anointed as successful. You get a raise, promotion, etc, etc regardless of merit. If you are the anointed one, then everything you say is right, all your mistakes are forgiven. It's a private company after all, so the freedom to create arbitrary rules is understandable. The question is - where's the limit? 4. Nepotism works too. 5. Political top layer. Is this the best private equity could do? That makes me question the skills and acumen of private equity firm that bought this company and doubt their whole business case around this company. 6. Middle management is full of failed programmers. 7. People who are firmly established will do whatever they want but if you do the same thing it will be questioned. Trust is not part of culture. 8. Silos. There are silos of 1-2-3 people. Only they know what they do and these silos are what the company is made of. And the silos need to be protected to maintain information advantage. 9. "Great place to work" is nothing but a giant PR job. The company wants to go public. And they can't without manufacturing a certain reputation. Thus the constant presence of someone monitoring Glassdoor. News is what is broadcast as news, not what actually happens. FOX News understands this. Therefore the constant drumbeat of "charity work", "global company", "best place to work", etc. 10. With the kind of talent this company has, I suspect the IPO window will close without the company getting in shape to be able to use it. There's only so much lipstick can do. 11. Cloud is nothing but a massive Cloud job.

At Genesys, we value our diverse community, or at least most of us do; it’s one of the many things that make this a great place to work. Nelson Mandela once said, “For to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.” I think Orwell himself would characterize some of your apparent issues with our diverse community as doubleplusungood. However, if you would like to have a constructive conversation about your concerns, my door is always open, as is that of all of our senior leadership. …Tracy

Pros

Genesys has very high expectations of their employees, and actively encourages them to stretch themselves, their knowledge, their capabilities and get out of the comfort zone. At least with their R&D personnel, they want everyone to innovate something, large or small, to make the cycles faster, the quality higher, the customers happier, or the process smoother. They are quite serious about it, which is both exciting and challenging at the same time. And different from anywhere else I've worked, where this kind of thing get more lip service than true encouragement. They aren't focused on a lot of rules that stifle people and their morale, but expect professionalism and they get it because of who they hire. Work-from-home and leave policies are liberal, as long as the work is getting done. It's actually a pretty good situation to be there.

Cons

Some of the benefits of Open Time Off and work-from-home are not as evenly applied to certain departments, such as Customer Support, where it is more difficult to get time off approved. It is possible to get left behind if you aren't keeping up on new trends and technologies, if you are in the R&D area.
