Don't do it

Pros

I can't think of anything good about it. The pay is decent if you don't factor in the hours worked and on call.

Cons

I worked for Southerncare Hospice and it was a wonderful company. Southerncare was bought by Curo last June and it's been all downhill from there. Southerncare cared about their patients and employees. Their motto was whatever it takes. Curo seems to have the same motto, but they mean whatever it takes to save money. They work their nurses to death on salary, the insurance is expensive and not good at all, and they don't want to pay for anything for their patients. I miss my old job with Southerncare, but I'm glad that I left Curo. Hospice nursing is already stressful with trying to help patients and their families through the dying process. The company does not seem to factor that in at all or provide any type of support for emotional stress. The RNs are salaried and they now are expected to work all week from 8 am until whenever they get done seeing patients at night, be on call all night and work the next day without sleep if they are called out, and be on call on the weekends. Basically working 12 days in a row with no rest. They are never satisfied with any amount or quality of work or documentation. Even after finishing your day of patients you will be charting all evening and into the night, and adding admissions onto your regular patient visits at a moments notice that take between 3-5 hours each. Add in multiple meetings a week at the office and hours of online education to do every month in your spare time. You do get paid gas mileage, but it definitely does not cover the amount of wear and tear on your vehicle. I'm not sure if this is all the offices or just the one I experienced but from reading other reviews it seems to be widespread. The office management does not seem to be managed at all and have complete freedom to do whatever they want as long as they are saving money and getting numbers for the census. You're also constantly micromanaged by management every minute of the day and evening. At the old Southerncare we had much more freedom and flexibility in our hours and daily activities.
