Pros
amazing benefits, super flexible schedule. almost everyone who works at mason either cares a lot about its mission, and its mission is seeped into everything that happens at the university. the value of a workplace that cares is very potent.
Cons
however. many managers. the infrastructure of any given office is a mess. non-managers have very little power and are subject to the whims of 6-7 people at any given point, all of whom are not in correspondence with each other and difficult to reach in the best of times, gumming up the works. it's nothing unusual for a nonprofit but it can be soul-crushing. pay is not competitive and there is no room for advancement nor raises unless you change positions.
