Pros

Decent benefits. Remote Options. Stable.

Cons

Pay does not align with area cost of living. For this to be such a large university with so many students etc., you would think that staff members wouldn't need two and three jobs to survive. What kind of apartment you think I can get on my own for 52k in Fairfax County or the surrounding area? Meanwhile, upper management aren't worried about where their next meals are coming from or how much gas they are wasting by sitting in traffic. HA! or my favorite when the check is coming. Because although the pay schedule is bi-monthly, that's not how you get paid.

Pros

Great benefits. Some of the best insurance coverage you will find. Friendly people.

Cons

Salaries are low. Depending on which department you work in, growth can be very stagnant. Lots of turn over in certain areas.

Pros

The only pro I can give is all the different programs you can learn to use and can use to move forward in your career (if they choose not to ruin your career)

Cons

Everything else. Abusive supervisors, HR that does not respect confidentiality when you report said supervisors. GMU touts themselves as being the "most diverse" university in Virginia, yet is an incredibly racist institution. A professor in the law school made a tweet about Latinos.. was reported to the school, and to no surprise, nothing was done about it and he is still employed. My own supervisor was disgustingly abusive, racist, incompetent and useless.. they were reported to HR (on multiple occasions) and instead of them leaving, it was me who had to go. HR never offered to give me an exit interview and swept my complaints under the rug. Just working here almost ruined my career, all because I spoke up for the injustices I had to endure. DO NOT WORK HERE, DO NOT THINK ABOUT BECOMING A STUDENT HERE. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU.
