Corporate Culture of Yesteryear

Pros

- Stable company, they're not going out of business anytime soon - Solid health benefits - Fair pay

Cons

- PTO policy is archaic (12 days, no sick time, 17 days after 5 years service). If you're fortunate enough to have multiple offers, use this as a bargaining chip although I've seen the company not budge when a prospect did this exact thing. - As the headline suggests, this is your parent's or grandparent's company in terms of corporate culture. Broadly speaking, this means they don't invest in employee well-being despite my personal belief that the initial investment (i.e. expenses) would easily be recouped with increased production due to increased morale in the long term. However, any other image that comes to your mind when you think of "your parent's corporation" is probably accurate. - More of a neutral point, but Gildan can definitely provide an opportunity for continuous/gainful employment assuming you do your job. However, don't expect to fulfill your passions or personally blossom here. It's a typical Corporate America job, so just go in with eyes wide open. If this is your thing, then consider this point a pro.

Good for short term learning

Pros

Gildan Retail is small enough that you get a lot of exposure to different areas. You can really learn a lot. Pay/benefits are pretty good.

Cons

You have a higher probability of being let go due to a reorganization than you do if ever moving up in the company. Outside the lowest levels there have been next to zero (could actually be zero) people advance up the ladder on the retail side. All open higher level jobs are filled from the outside. Not a place to build a career.
