Pros

Such a cool product and company with incredible, life changing benefits. So many smart colleagues and really progressive, cool ideologies about work/life balance and sense of belonging.

Cons

The sales culture is what you would expect from a fast expanding company but with a mountain of sales leadership incompetence to propel the company into a bleak future. This is not my first startup so I have some experience dealing with the growing pains. The typical growing pains are RAMPANT and getting worse day by day thanks to gross mismanagement. The sales leaders have over hired, under trained, and misled so many of us. Don’t even get me started at the insanely horrible Salesforce instance our “sales ops/marketing ops” team has managed to run into the ground. We cannot expect to be successful with the terrible Salesforce and data uncleanliness that this company has created coupled with the gross incompetence of sales leaders. I’ve never experienced such a disorganized, chaotic sales organization. On top of this, I’ve seen sales reps get fired or let go at rates I’ve never seen anywhere else. Truly scary.

We appreciate you sharing your feedback about working at GitLab. We’re constantly iterating to create the best team member experience for everyone. While I’m happy to hear some of the pros you mentioned above, I am disappointed to hear that there are things about your experience that haven’t been great. I’d like to share a few of the active steps we’ve taken to improve some of the things you mentioned in your review. We are continuously iterating on field enablement programs which include an upcoming launch of certification programs that we hope you will participate in and more importantly provide feedback. We’re also making constant improvements to our internal tools, which include enhancing the configuration, integration and recent data enrichment projects. As a company, we review our attrition metrics regularly, and are fortunate to be well below the industry average. It's incredibly important to us that our team members feel empowered to escalate this type of concern. I’d encourage you to bring up this feedback with your manager or your People Business Partner so that we can continue to take steps to improve the issues you’re experiencing.

Sales culture needs to change

Pros

Transparent and inherently collaborative culture. All-remote.

Cons

Commercial sales culture and process needs to change. Classifying companies by number of employees is okay, but there needs to be a clear process in ensuring that AEs are closing deals what they are supposed to close, and not wasting time justifying working on deals that don't belong to them. For new AEs, there is no clear transition process and this leads to frustration and ineffectiveness.

Pros

- The company is very result-oriented, but it doesn't mean that result is the only thing that matters. - You're the manager of yourself: nobody will be counting the hours you "work" or the butt/seat hours you put in. - One of the company's core values is collaboration, and most people in the company will always be happy to help. - Work with some of the smartest and coolest people ever. - Work from home, or anywhere else (If that's for you, for me is priceless). - The company supports you with all the necessary equipment for your work-station.

Cons

- The company is growing a lot, even during COVID times they keep hiring people, which is great. But that rapid growth brings growth pains like some new individuals not being aligned with the company values and goals. - Some internal processes can be really slow, HR for instance. Likely due to staff limitation or the quick growth previously mentioned.
