Pros

I have experience with both non-profit and for-profit communications agencies. I have found my time with the Good Samaritan Society to be positive and rewarding. My co-workers and superiors continue to encourage my career growth, and my Christian faith. I have been promoted twice in the almost nine years I've worked here. I also have created professional friendships with co-workers across the United States since we have 240 locations in 24 states. The best thing I can say about the Good Samaritan Society is that I also am a client. My mother has a wonderful relationship with the visiting nurses who work for one of our local agencies. They are professional and caring. I couldn't have the life that I have if they weren't here to help me care for my mother as she ages in her own home.

Cons

I'm well aware of the negative feelings that some of my co-workers have for the national headquarters where I work. What I wish is that we had more time to connect across the miles. I do as many long-distance training and support phone calls as I can, but that's not enough. Respect and trust are key in our relationships between headquarters and our local centers.

Thank you for sharing your experience with others as to what it's like to work in Good Samaritan. It is interesting, as you know, that every location and department is different, yet at the heart of what we do, is the desire to be servant leaders and make a difference in the lives of the seniors that are receiving care and services. Keep up the good work, it sounds like we are "blessed" to have you share your gifts and talents.

Thank you for your candid information and suggestions. As a part-time employee, I can only imagine the challenges you face with getting communication timely and as needed, and it is great to hear that your co-workers and the training that you are able to take is helpful. I hope that you continue to find the work rewarding, as it really takes special individuals with a heart to care for others.
