Pros

I enjoy working at the high school. My department is one of the largest, and I find that the other teachers in my department are collaborative and give their best. The administrative team at the high school is passionate and competent. The school is very student focused.

Cons

Because of "the school of one" idea, it feels very much like students can do whatever they want, whenever they want. Standardized testing is taking over. Most of it is not the fault of the district, but they could drop the NWEA at the high school. The central office personnel can be unhelpful and out of touch with what happens in the classroom.

Pros

I went to school here and have taught in the district for many years. I love living in Goshen. Teachers you work with are mostly supportive and helpful. Kids can be great!

Cons

Some administrators don’t bother knowing the students or supporting teachers when there are issues. My students don’t even know who the principal is when she walks in and then walks out without interacting. District tries to save money at all costs. They only care about test scores and having a lot of meetings where you get little work done with a lot of homework to finish on your own. It gets overwhelming and stressful. Groups sped kids in general education classroom with almost no support from special education teacher. (Saves money) It is all the general educations responsibility to teach grade level curriculum and somehow make it work for kids who can’t read or count in intermediate grades.
