Pros

Grainger is light years ahead of the competition as far as their technology platform and go-to-market strategies. Senior management does a great job with communicating new strategies and expectations, as well as making a conscious effort to meet employee needs.

Cons

The base salary could be better. Merit increases are few and far between. With the depth of product, they tend to roll out too many initiatives at one time which pushes the Account Managers past capacity. Management is not always realistic with the work load. They place more and more on the reps administratively, but want us in the field more. It's a double edged sword.

Pros

Relatively flexible day - make your calls and stop by the branch every now and then and you're good to go.

Cons

You are micromanaged to death from recording detailed call notes, what your action steps are based on the call, and how you will do them. Managers then require "tasks" for each action step (i.e. call back Brian) - so essentially you are documenting every part of the job no matter how minute. Some managers seem pretty good and their employees like to work for them, mine was one of the worst managers I have ever worked for. Manages with scare tactics, has a "holier than thou" attitude, and over promises to her boss and expects her people to take the fall.

Pros

This company has some excellent benefits(insurance & profit sharing) and the compensation package is pretty fiar in this market.

Cons

Grainger managers are pretty much useless. They seem to promote an unprofessional work environment. It's just like the TV program Office Space
