Pros

Decent pay for the job. A lot of work to make a lot of money. Good benefits. Tough industry to sell in right now.

Cons

As like in most sales, you don't often get paid for a lot that you do. Management can be a bit harsh.

Pros

Good place for people in protected classes - women, minorities, and people over 50. 3 for 1 company match on charitable giving. Beautiful office environment in Lake Forest. Most departments seem to work reasonable hours, but that is not always the case. Profit sharing is decent.

Cons

Heavily political - I've worked for several Fortune 500 companies, but Grainger is the worst in this respect. I keep wondering how some of these managers and directors have gotten to their positions. Senior leadership does seem more competent. Compensation can get really out of whack. Some of the worst employees can be paid significantly higher than some of the best employees. HR makes it very difficult to fix these issues. Also, there seems to be no rhyme or reason for which positions are eligible for restricted stock units.

Pros

Part time work is the best for a college student. Very good starting wages for part time. Huge flexibility in terms of school scheduling. Off on weekends. Off by 6 PM at the latest. Paid holidays and 2 weeks vacation after 1 year of employment. Great learning experience in terms of warehouse operations, customer service, sales and computer skills (SAP) Hard to get fired if you do your job right and don't miss.

Cons

Cumbersome operational procedures. Lack of proper training. Repetitive work day in day out. Lack of excitement at work. Management can be uptight at times. Very very seldom will they pay overtime. You're PT anyway. When sales go down, hours can be cut and people can get laid off.
