Pros

Profit sharing and work life balance. No matter how high or low you are within the organization the company rewards employees for longevity by providing a profit sharing plan. Last few years for employees of 5 or more years the contributions have been around 20%! The company has been around for almost 80 years and has never lost money!

Cons

Large matrixed company, it's bureacratic when something needs to be accomplished. If you are the type of person that is more entrepreneurial this is probably not the company for you. However, if you can work with multiple departments and people this is a company that will reward you.

Pros

Grainger has a great culture. People are friendly and fair. There is a lot of pride about working at Grainger and it is well recognized in industry. The physical environment at HQ is beautiful with good perks like a great cafeteria and on-site health club.

Cons

Grainger is a middle market payer. Many people have been with Grainger for a long time, so at first you are at a disadvantage because you do not have the internal network. The organization has a marketing and distribution focus and the products are generally not complex. If you want an environment with a high level of academic acumen you will get bored. There is still little focus on international business. This is growing but it is an area with limited career growth opportunities. It is a fairly large company and at times can move a little slowly. Grainger has a way of lulling you into complacency.
