Does not appreciate hard work and honesty

Pros

The place is clean, orderly, structured. It has a gym. The cafeteria food isn't that bad. You punch in and out right on the dot, so if you like structure, it is a place for you. Nice big windows. Coworkers are relatively polite, I didn't encounter any drama while working there. If all you want to do is go to work and leave then you can do that there.

Cons

I should have realized when I saw everybody leaving at 5 p.m. on the dot en masse that this was not a place where employees felt they could get a lot out if they put a lot in. I was a temp, worked very hard, and was commended by coworkers and my supervisor alike for a good and smart work ethic. I was let go, and I won't go into it, but I still doubt whether it was something other than politics since it seems extreme to let me go so abruptly on such a minor mistake. Accuracy is very important at Granite, but a worker does not know telecom (who the heck does) without learning it, and if the management is not willing to answer questions on a project, then you can't expect a new employee to have all the answers. Regardless, I worked my butt off and was rewarded with a prompt dismissal. I am never working that hard again for a company that says peace so quickly and easily. They don't deserve your hard work ethic.

Does not appreciate employees

Pros

It's a Growing Company at a convenient location. This is also a big company and you will meet a lot of people. If you are in the right department, working with and for the right people, things can be great. They have a good health plan and cover a good amount.

Cons

I was at Granite for about 6 years and it nearly tripled in size when I left. Unfortunately, I don't think Granite managed its growth as well as they could have. Due to their lack of employee appreciation, people were in and out of there like rotating doors. They would leave the company or do lateral moves into other departments. I felt because of this, a lot of people there did not know their jobs well as they should and this includes supervisors and managers. There is no Human Resource department at Granite. If you are having any work related issues, you need to see the Senior Corporate Counsel which I find extremely unusual for a company of 1000+ employees. There are no annual pay raises but they do (try to) compensate by giving free lunches and days off here and there.

Pros

This place is a stepping stone where you can develop skills - technical, communication, organization, but that is where the benefits end. They also have 2-3 really good sales reps that keep the company afloat. You will learn how NOT to run a company, which is valuable as well. I should note that the other negative reviews are 100% accurate and I would advise potential applicants to steer far, far away. While I enjoyed some of my time there and met some great people, I do feel like I wasted time and my career suffered because of it.

Cons

It's a job, not a career. Extremely poor management with a everyone is replaceable mentality. They avoid promotions and raises at all costs, more recently shy away from substantial bonuses, yet gloat about how fast they're growing. There is very low morale in the office as everyone is frustrated and overworked. My time here was flooded with empty promises.
