Turnover is high for a reason

Pros

Great kids and parent support, provided curriculum and best practice coaching, good benefits, 401k matching

Cons

Low pay, broken promises surrounding workload, and working conditions, poor communication Two years ago there was a big push to “reduce teacher burdens” that never came to fruition and instead we were pummeled with additional responsibilities as our raises were frozen. Turnover is so high within this organization that under qualified people are rapidly promoted to leadership. I believe admin at my school tried their very best, but their skill set was INCREDIBLY limited and the school became a very toxic environment with a lot of miserable people. I would not recommend working here.

Pros

Colleagues were nice people. Most families were good to work with. Curriculum is good for the most part although not always developmentally appropriate for the students.

Cons

They do not value the expertise of certified, experienced teachers. Instead, they prefer a person who will only teach the Great Hearts way, follow the philosophy, and do exactly as the grade level team wants. It’s a one size fits all approach and not always in the best interest of different learning styles/needs. Salary is low and state retirement is not offered.

Pros

good pay and benefits, helpful Special Education director/staff

Cons

This whole network lacks diversity, as does their "curriculum". They are exclusive and want to run as if they are a private school when they are very much a public charter school.
